Problem
The length of a rope is measured to be 5 m, correct to the nearest 0.1 m. It is cut into many pieces of rope such that the length of each rope is measured to be 10 cm, correct to the nearest 1 cm. Find the lower limit of the length of each piece.
Solution

Hints:

9.5 cm

The measurement is to the nearest 1 cm, so the error is \\pm 0.5 \\text{ cm}. Lower limit = 10 - 0.5 = 9.5 \\text{ cm}.
