Problem
A big bottle of water contains 10 L of water, correct to the nearest 100 mL. It is used to fill water cups so that each cup is filled with 140 mL of water, correct to the nearest 10 mL. Karen thinks that the big bottle has enough water to fill 80 cups. Is she correct? Explain your answer.
Solution

Hints:

No, it is not guaranteed.

Upper limit of bottle = 10000 + 50 = 10050 \\text{ mL}. Lower limit of cup = 140 - 5 = 135 \\text{ mL}. Maximum number of cups = \\lfloor \\frac{10050}{135} \\rfloor \\approx 74.44, so 74 cups. Since 74 < 80, it’s not guaranteed to fill 80 cups.
